Dr. Amy Myers MD
Dr. Amy Myers is s a renowned leader in Functional Medicine and New York Times Bestselling author of The Autoimmune Solution. She was raised by enlightened parents who impressed upon her the power of community, nutrition and travel. Her mother was an artist, avid jogger and yoga instructor who enjoyed growing a garden and making homemade yogurt and breads. Her father a university professor of Chinese studies introduced her to Chinese herbs at an early age and the importance of culture. The influence they provided guided her passions today.
Her functional medicine journey began years ago when she grabbed a book by Dr. Andrew Weil before boarding a plane to begin 2 1/2 years serving as a US Peace Corps Volunteer in Paraguay, South America.
Inspired by Dr. Weil’s natural approach to health, she returned to the states and enrolled in medical school at LSU Health Sciences in New Orleans. In her fourth year, she spent a month rotation at Dr. Weil’s integrated medicine program in Tucson, AZ and yet felt there was more in getting to the root of an individuals health. Dr. Myers decided to do her post-grauate residency training in emergency medicine at The University of Maryland / Shock Trauma with the thought that when she eventually, intuitively found the focus she was looking for, she would have the flexibility to move quickly in that direction.
She moved to Austin and worked as an emergency room physician at University Medical Center at Brackenridge and Dell Children’s Medical Center where she had her “Aha!” moment. Wanting to get back to her roots of alternative medicine, she enrolled in a conference in New York City in February 2009 and heard Dr. Mark Hyman speak on Functional Medicine.
When he explained the idea of a comprehensive approach to health care focusing on prevention and finding the underlying cause of illness rather than simply treating the symptoms, Dr. Myers knew she had found the approach to medicine that she’d been looking for.
She introduced herself to Dr. Hyman, expressing her interest in the practice of functional medicine, and was privileged to spend a week shadowing him at his practice. After a full immersion into the practice and countless hours of training with the Institute for Functional Medicine, she is has completed all of the training to be certified in functional medicine.
Since then, Dr. Myers has become a passionate educator who believes that everyone has the ability to take charge of their health if given the right information. That’s why she offers access to extensive educational opportunities through her website, blog, podcasts, online eCourses, eBooks and her clinic. By giving everyone the knowledge to become his or her own health advocate, Dr. Myers is changing the face of functional medicine.

Dr. Christine Maren DO
Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine
Christine Maren D.O. is an osteopathic physician, board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine. She was born and raised in Colorado by parents who promoted an active lifestyle and good nutrition. This upbringing inspired an interest in holistic medicine at an early age. But it was her own personal health challenges with digestive issues, autoimmunity, gluten intolerance, and pregnancy loss that motivated her to study functional medicine.
She chose an osteopathic medical education in search of a more holistic approach, earning her medical degree at the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine of Midwestern University in May 2009. She later moved to San Antonio, Texas, to train at one of the nation’s premier family medicine residency programs at CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital.
During residency, she spent a month in Tucson, Arizona, studying with Dr. Andrew Weil’s group at The University of Arizona Center for Integrative Medicine. Dr. Weil, who has been coined ‘The Father of Integrative Medicine,’ was a guiding figure very early in her career. Spending this time in Tucson was an exciting and transformative experience.
When Dr. Maren was later introduced to functional medicine to address her own health concerns, she knew it would become the focus of her practice. This journey gave her to the tools she was missing in her conventional training, and reignited her passion for medicine. She is currently completing her training as a Certified Practitioner with the Institute for Functional Medicine.
A mother of two, she has first-hand experience with preconception and postpartum health, pregnancy, infertility and childhood wellness. She is happily married to a fellow physician, and has been practicing yoga for nearly 20 years.
She has been inspired by Dr. Amy Myers’ leadership in the functional medicine community for years, and is thrilled to be part of the team at Austin UltraHealth.

Director of Pet Therapy
Mocha was rescued by Tracy’s Dogs, a Texas-based rescue organization that works to rehabilitate and find loving homes for shelter dogs. (A portion of the sales from our online store go to support Tracy’s Dogs; click here to learn more about the charity organizations we support.)
Although she grew out of the dark-brown coloring she was named for, Mocha kept her friendly, happy personality. You can find her on most days relaxing at the office (don’t worry, she doesn’t shed!) or playing outside. She loves playing, cuddling, visiting her friends at the office, and eating yummy grain-free paleo dog treats. Mocha loves people (especially children!), and her favorite part of the day is greeting the new patients that come to our office.
