If, like so many people, you’ve struggled to get your doctor to believe that something is wrong with you, my heart goes out to you. When you’re feeling sick, tired, and scared, there’s nothing worse than having a physician— the person whose help you desperately need— tell you that you’re fine and there’s nothing more that he or she can do to help you. “It’s all in your head,” “This just happens as you get older,” “I’ve already done everything I can”— these are unconscionable responses, in my opinion, and frankly, they make my blood boil.
