Mojito Mocktail

Recipe with Gut ImmunIG™ - Watermelon Mojito Mocktail - Amy Myers MD®

Summertime is fast approaching, and with it comes parties and get-togethers. Family reunions, block parties, and other social events often have alcoholic drinks to help lighten the mood. However, it’s important to remember that alcohol is toxic and inflammatory. I recommend everyone avoid it. That said, it’s still nice to be able to enjoy a refreshing beverage from time to time. Traditional mojitos consist of rum, sugar, citrus fruits, and mint. Processed sugars and alcohol can be a dangerous duo, especially if you already suffer from gut or immune issues.

That’s why this mojito mocktail is the perfect solution. You still get the fizzy, fruity flavors without the damaging effects of alcohol. Not only that, but you get the added immune support with an ingredient I chose to include (hint— not many drink recipes include this!).

Watermelon and Mint

As I mentioned earlier, there are some pretty great reasons for pairing watermelon and mint together. In addition to the cooling, fruity profile, you also get some remarkable health benefits.

For example, mint leaves carry calming properties that can help lower feelings of stress and anxiety. Mint can also help improve digestion, as well as mask bad breath.1 Watermelon is incredibly hydrating, as it contains up to 91% water. Not only that, but it’s a rich source of vitamin C, vitamin A, vitamin B5, copper, and potassium.2

Coconut Sugar

Traditional mojitos or a mojito mocktail contain either cane sugar or corn syrup as sweeteners. Both of these can be highly inflammatory. Oftentimes, they can irritate the gut and trigger immune responses. That’s why coconut sugar is such a fantastic substitute.

As the name implies, coconut sugar comes from the coconut plant. Technically, it comes from the sap that circulates in the coconut tree. One of the benefits of coconut sugar is that it has a lower glycemic index. This means it won’t spike your blood sugar levels the same way cane sugar might.

Because coconut sugar comes from the tree, this natural sweetener is rich in a substance called inulin. Inulin is an indigestible fiber that acts as food for probiotics. This makes it a wonderful substitute for those suffering from SIBO, Candida, or Leaky Gut.

ImmunoLin®

Repairing a damaged gut takes intentionality. Thankfully, it gets easier when you have gut nourishing and immune supporting ingredients added to your foods and beverages.

You may have heard the benefits of bone broth and colostrum. Each plays a role in helping the gut lining repair itself while ridding the body of toxins and other harmful substances. Gut ImmunIG™ takes whole body health to the next level with its dairy free immunoglobulin profile sourced from bovine serum.

The Final Word on Watermelon Mint Mocktail

Warmer weather is famous for its alcoholic beverages, especially when you’re out with friends or family. If you’re following The Myers Way or other AIP protocol, you know how damaging added sugars, artificial dyes, and alcohol can be for your gut and immune system.

Even so, who says summer has to be dull and boring? This Watermelon Mint Mocktail is the perfect way to refresh yourself, savor the moment, and take good care of your gut. Sip back and enjoy the day!
