We’ve reached the point in society where we purchase one million plastic bottles every minute. Of those,  91% are not recycled. These bottles also require more than 17 million barrels of oil to produce the yearly numbers required. And, despite recycling programs, billions and billions of plastic bottles end up in a landfill, where they sit for approximately 400 years before they decompose. If you haven’t heard about leaky gut by now… allow me to fill you in on exactly what it means. Leaky Gut is a term used to describe an intestinal barrier that has become, quite simply, too permeable. In short, this means that your intestines are no longer doing an adequate job of keeping antigens such as bacteria, viruses, fungi, and potentially allergenic or inflammatory proteins from food out of your bloodstream and lymph. The tight junctions between your intestine’s cell walls become damaged and stretched, and these gaps allow antigens to pass from your intestines into the rest of your body where they can wreak havoc.

I designed my SIBO Breakthrough® Kit to help promote and maintain a healthy and normal population of probiotic bacteria in your digestive tract. Small intestinal bacterial overgrowth, also known as small bowel bacterial overgrowth, occurs when bacteria colonize the normally quite sterile small intestine. While the extract used is harvested from the hull (shell) of the nut, due to the nature of the extraction process itself, there is no way to know with certainty that the extract is 100% free of the actual allergenic protein in walnuts. While it’s very unlikely that the extract does contain allergenic components of walnut, I urge you to err on the side of caution. I recommend clients with nut allergies not take this product before getting approval from their doctors or allergists.

Can I take Coconut Charcoal if I’m allergic to coconut?
My Coconut Charcoal is made from the fibrous outer husk of coconuts, not the meaty white flesh of coconuts that contains the allergenic protein. It’s also processed into nearly pure carbon through heating, so no viable protein should remain in the finished product. If you have a diagnosed coconut allergy, please speak with your healthcare provider before consuming any products containing coconut.
Can I take Coconut Charcoal if I’m allergic to tree nuts?
Scientifically speaking coconuts are not tree nuts, they are in fact fruits classified as a “drupe.” Other drupes include palm fruit, peaches, berries, plums, and apricots. However, because the FDA has lumped coconuts in a group with other tree nuts for labeling purposes, etc., I am required to list them as a potential allergen. In fact, true coconut allergy is actually extremely rare with only a few cases reported in the medical literature. If you have a diagnosed tree nut allergy, please speak with your healthcare provider before consuming any products containing coconut.
