Frequently Asked Questions

What is Paleo Protein made of?

Paleo Protein is made from hydrolyzed bovine collagen that comes from happy, pasture-raised cows that graze on fresh green fields in the sunshine. These animals are raised with love and care and are never given unnecessary drugs such as antibiotics, arsenic-based growth promoters, or hormones. They are grass-fed and never fed GMOs, such as genetically modified corn and soy meal.

What time of day should I take Paleo Protein?

Paleo Protein is perfect any time of the day. While Dr. Myers likes it in her morning smoothies, you can enjoy it at all times of the day. Whether you’re mixing it into your morning coffee, into shakes for dessert, or adding it to soups and stews for an extra collagen kick, you’ll find that it’s a great protein source to indulge in around the clock.

Is Paleo Protein safe for pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, and children?

While many moms and dads tell me they give Paleo Protein to their kids, I always recommend speaking with your child’s pediatrician or nutritionist if you have concerns about any of the ingredients or adjusting the dosing for them. And, as always, I recommend reaching out to your physician, midwife, or other qualified healthcare practitioner if you have any concerns before using it while pregnant or breastfeeding.

Is Paleo Protein damaged by heat?

All proteins are damaged by high heat to some extent. Proteins are long chains of amino acids bound together. High heat can potentially fold and warp the amino acid chains into new shapes and structures called amines that may be unusable by the body, or even harmful. This is why you should avoid charring or overcooking meat. The proteins and peptides in my Paleo Protein are quite stable at moderately high temps, so adding it to a hot cup of tea or coffee, or baking it at low temps (below 300F) will not denature it too much.

Can I take Paleo Protein if I’m allergic to tree nuts?

Paleo Protein Powder contains MCT oil derived from coconuts. Scientifically speaking, coconuts are not tree nuts—they are in fact fruits classified as a “drupe.” Other drupes include palm fruit, peaches, berries, plums, and apricots. However, because the FDA has lumped coconuts in a group with other tree nuts for labeling purposes, we are required to list them as a potential allergen. In fact, true coconut allergy is actually extremely rare with only a few cases reported in the medical literature. If you have a diagnosed tree nut allergy, please speak with your healthcare provider before consuming any products containing coconut.

Is the Paleo Protein Powder available in other flavors?

Yes! If you are using this unflavored protein powder for its flexibility and simple ingredients, you will be glad to know it is part of a full line of versatile flavor options. In addition to the unflavored variety, this protein powder is also available in delicious flavors like Vanilla Bean, Double Chocolate, Mocha Latte, Strawberries & Cream, and Salted Caramel. Each variety is physician-formulated and made with the same grass-fed collagen and gut-supporting ingredients, giving you the freedom to choose the flavor that best fits your lifestyle and taste preferences. Whether you prefer the bold richness of mocha or the smooth sweetness of a vanilla protein powder, there’s a Paleo Protein flavor for everyone.

    I can't.

My naturopath has recommended this product for me. I've tried the unflavored twice - once in my tea and once in a cup of hot beef stock and it was so difficult to drink. I choked it down once but almost vomited with the beef stock. I haven't yet tried the chocolate flavor. I am planning to try this in a cup of brewed cacao next. I may be returning one or both. I do believe that nutritionally, this is the product that I need. But I don't think I can force myself to drink it. It was so unpleasant.

They changed the recipe without informing us

I'm really disappointed that both the price went up but they also changed the recipe to be solely collagen now. This no longer supports muscle building proteins from Bovine as it used to. I cancelled my subscription because of it. Definitely disappointed.

    Formula Change

I used to love this protein powder. However, the formula has significantly changed. Within a week of taking this daily, I begin breaking out in cystic acne and am forced to stop taking it - then the acne disappears. I have tried restarting multiple times and experienced the same reaction. I compared one of my old containers (2021) to the newer (2024) formula and MCT oil is one of the new ingredients, which may be causing this reaction . I also noticed that the most updated ingredients list online includes even more new ingredients. I am unable to continue using this and will deeply miss having a true, one ingredient protein powder. Sometimes less is more.

Not a complete protein- i’ve used this for years, thinking it was a complete protein

If you want to make this a complete protein, you need to add some form of tryptophan to it like a raw egg or yogurt, etc..

I’m hoping in the future they perhaps come out with some form of complete protein powder.

    Good for smoothies

It is easy to add the unflavored protein powder to my smoothies so I can make smoothies the way I like each morning for breakfast. I can change the flavors up without having to worry about the protein affecting the flavor.
