Not only is sleep a wonderful thing, it’s essential for our bodies and minds. Yet a restful night is not always easy to achieve. In fact, one in three American doesn’t get enough sleep.1 Poor sleep was one of the most common complaints among patients in my clinic and in a recent survey of my community.

There are many reasons why this issue is so widespread. The quality of your sleep is influenced by a wide array of factors including your hormones and neurotransmitters. These are affected by everyday stressors, your activity levels, your diet, and your overall health. To complete the circle, your sleep impacts all of these in turn.

To get the quality sleep you need — and deserve! — you may have found relief using my original Rest and Restore™. It’s a great supplement to help you relax and support a restful night of sleep. However, for those who need more support, my Rest and Restore™ Max takes it to the next level.

Why Do You Need Sleep?

Ideally, you spend at least a third of your life asleep. Sleep is a vital part of learning, memory retention, and even detoxifying your body. When you don’t get enough sleep, your risk of developing chronic issues including hypertension, heart disease, diabetes, depression, and obesity increases dramatically.

Additionally, shortened sleep is linked to reduced REM sleep, which is the deepest stage of sleep. This can lead to daytime cognitive dysfunction, and other sleep-related troubles. Sleep deprivation can lead to fatigue, daytime drowsiness, clumsiness, and weight problems. It also burdens your immune system, and affects hormone balance, gut health, and your mood.

How Much Sleep Do You Need?

The typical healthy range for adults is between six and eight hours of sleep each night. However, what’s most important is how you feel during the day, after a night of rest. Do you feel fully recharged and energized? If not, there are ways to support your body and achieve restorative sleep patterns.

What Causes Sleep Problems?

To find out what’s affecting your sleep, you need to understand your circadian rhythm. Our body’s circadian rhythm is the 24-hour cycle of sleeping and waking controlled by your brain. It gets its cues from light. Darkness cues your brain to start producing melatonin in your pineal gland. This tells your body it’s time to go to bed.

Yet, modern society bombards you with everyday stressors that affect sleep-wake cycles and melatonin production, negatively impacting your sleep. An irregular sleep schedule and poor sleep habits, including not going to bed and getting up at the same time each day, can have a negative impact on your sleep.

Here are the four biggest culprits:

  1. Light
We’re surrounded by bright lights and technology at all hours of the day which can delay your circadian rhythm in the evening, when it is most sensitive to light.
  2. Stress
Everyday stress can lead to less time in deep sleep, and even short-term stressors decrease sleep efficiency, and impair the processing of fact-based memories.
  3. Diet
Refined sugar, caffeine, and alcohol can negatively impact your quality of rest. Consuming acidic foods before bed that aren’t fully digested before you lie down can trigger acid reflux.
  4. Aging
Most people find that they have a harder time falling asleep as they age, possibly as a result of magnesium deficiency. You may also wake more during the night due to stress, pain, or even frequently needing to use the bathroom.

Rest and Restore™

My Rest and Restore™ is a physician-formulated combination of amino acids and minerals designed to support falling asleep fast and also encourage deep and restful sleep so that your neurotransmitters, hormones, and your entire body have ample opportunity to replenish and rejuvenate overnight. Reaching those lower levels of sleep is vital to maintaining optimal health and feeling your best every day when you wake up, ready to tackle the new day ahead.

Rest and Restore™ even helps support relaxation during the daytime. Because magnesium helps relax occasional muscle tension, and L-Thenaine & GABA both encourage an alpha brainwave pattern that promotes physical and mental relaxation, Rest and Restore™ is the perfect supplement to support a calm and relaxed mood during the daytime as well (not just before bed)!

Take a look at the cutting-edge, pharmaceutical-grade ingredients in my Rest and Restore™ formula:

Magnesium

Magnesium is essential for relaxing stiff and tense muscles, and it is involved in over 300 chemical reactions in your body. Unfortunately, many older Americans experience a lack of magnesium because of changes in diet and digestive challenges.

L-Theanine

L-Theanine is a unique amino acid found in green tea. When your brain is in a beta brainwave pattern, you are more likely to feel energized, tense, stressed, fearful, or anxious. L-Theanine helps promote an alpha brainwave pattern that is often associated with a state of calm, such as meditating, or reading a good book on your day off.

PharmaGABA®

Gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) is a neurotransmitter inhibitor that blocks impulses between nerve cells in the brain. PharmaGABA® is specially processed to help improve its absorption and bioavailability, specifically, its ability to cross your blood-brain barrier. There, it can help where it’s needed most. Pharma GABA® has been shown to help increase the production of alpha brain waves and create a sense of physical relaxation.,

Rest and Restore Max™

I formulated my new Rest and Restore Max™ to make falling — and staying — asleep as easy and natural as possible. Not only does it contain the ingredients listed above, I also sourced three more key ingredients to maximize your sleep; melatonin, valerian root, and 5-Hydroxytryptophan.

Melatonin

As I mentioned earlier, melatonin is a natural hormone made by your body’s pineal gland. This hormone plays an essential role in regulating your circadian rhythm, and helps your body relax and prepare for sleep. Unfortunately, the pineal gland will not produce melatonin unless the person is in a dimly lit environment. Even then, it only produces a very small amount — about .2 mg — which may not be enough at the best of times. You’ll be sure to get the support you need with the full 3 mg I included in Rest and Restore Max™.

Valerian Root

Valerian is used to support relaxation and calming practices — particularly before bedtime! Studies show that valerian may be able to increase the amount of GABA in your body by causing GABA to release from brain nerve endings, and then blocking it from being taken back into nerve cells.

5-Hydroxytryptophan (Griffonia simplicifolia seed extract)

5-HTP is an amino acid naturally produced by your body that serves as a precursor to the crucial neurotransmitter serotonin, meaning it may play a role in naturally supporting healthy serotonin levels. Research confirms that lower serotonin levels can lead to sleep disorders, depression, anxiety, weight gain, and other health problems.

Why Choose Rest and Restore Max™?

Rest and Restore Max™ is my most potent form of sleep support. It will help you get the rest you need and awaken refreshed and ready for a busy day.

I still recommend Rest and Restore™ for those who are looking to de-stress, relax, and unwind. However, because Rest and Restore Max™ is so effective and fast-acting, I suggest reserving it only for use before bedtime. Keep in mind that because it may make some people very drowsy, you should not take Rest and Restore Max™ before driving a vehicle or operating heavy machinery.

Rest and Restore Max™ is the perfect support for anyone who:

  • Has a hard time falling asleep
  • Has taken other natural sleep aids and been disappointed
  • Wakes up often during the night
  • Wakes up too early in the morning
  • Needs help relaxing before bed
  • Has difficulty reaching the deeper stages of restful sleep
  • Has known nutritional deficiencies due to age or diet
